Under Chapter 7 of the St. Joseph City Ordinance Section 2 the keeping of Fowl closer than 200 feet from of any residence, apartment house or commercial building within the city, or within two hundred (200) feet of any public street, alley or other public place within the city is prohibited. I understand this may be because people are uneducated and do not understand that chickens are actually not smelly, when taken care of correctly, and do not make much noise at all.

I feel that if anyone is going to help stop global warming, it needs to be our generation. We need to start now, because we will be the futures political leaders, and we will be making decisions to help this earth.  Why not start now? If this generation started "going green”, the world would be a much better place in the future.

The crates that eggs come in take a while to recycle, while we would be saving 36 egg crates per year, because our family uses about 3 dozen eggs per month.

Another reason that I would like to have chickens is because of the way some chickens are treated. In some egg farms, they have 4 chickens in a 2x2 ft cage. This is not a suitable living environment for these animals. They chickens are also genetically modified to produce more eggs. Some chickens are so genetically modified they can hardly walk. The beaks are cut off of chickens in chicken farms without painkillers. All in all, 65% of chickens are destroyed or die in chicken farms because of the treatment, housing, and genetic modifications.

I believe in helping this Earth. This is our home, and we will be nothing when it is gone. I think we should use what Mother Nature has provided us with wisely, not destroy it.
