It was suggested to me (Thanks, Kristen!) that I put an example of a letter you could send/email to your congressmen, instead of my letter, so here it is:
Just fill in the italicized areas, and you are ready to send!
Dear Congressmen Name,
I heard that at a Commissioner meeting, you decided not to allow residents in St. Joseph to have Chickens. I think that we should be able to have chickens because Reason One, Reason Two, Reason Three.
I understand that you told Audrey that chickens are "dirty" and will "present health problems" in the community. I have talked to people with chickens though, and they say that there is no associated vermin in their coop, that they hens are very quiet, and that if the coop is cleaned regularly, there is no stink.
There are quite a few other cities in Michigan already doing this, for example: Lansing, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, Traverse City, and many more.
More Information Here.
Thank You,
